Since opening last year, my dream has been to carry locally grown and raised yarns and fibers. Much like we’ve made shopping at the farmer’s market the thing to do, or even just supporting small businesses over big box stores, I believe it’s important that we support and promote our local fiber agriculture.
Fiber, after all, is the entire basis of our textiles. Without the wool of the sheep, we’d not have warm woolen sweaters and socks to keep us toasty over the bitterly cold winters. And, to be honest, our fiber farms receive pretty much next to nothing for their fleece at the end of the day. “White” wools are preferred commercially over fleeces of other colors for their ability to be dyed, and more often than not farmers are losing money by the time they’ve cared for the animals, fed them, paid to have them sheared (or did the work themselves), etc. Our local fiber farms are truly in it for the love of it, because it certainly isn’t for the money.
So with that said, I wanted to introduce (or, maybe, reintroduce if you’ve already heard the news) a little section on the website with our locally grown and raised yarns and fibers, which I lovingly call Farm to Stash. These items feature fiber from animals raised right here in Central Ohio from local farms. By purchasing these items, you’re receiving quality fibers for your projects, yes, but, more importantly, you’re directly helping to support our local fiber agriculture, which means helping offset some cost of feed for the animals, vet care bills, and so much more that goes into taking care of these animals in order for them to produce the fibers and yarns we love so much.
As this section grows and we add more local yarns, you’ll be able to find all of our Farm to Stash products here.
