Tomorrow the weather forecast calls for 70-degree weather, and I’m not going to lie – I love my warm wool sweaters but I’m totally ready for some warmer weather and transitioning my wardrobe over to my spring and summer wearables! Yes, that’s right – my knitting doesn’t stop when the weather changes (which shouldn’t be a surprise given how much I love yarn!).
So let’s talk transitional pieces. Just because the weather is changing and warming doesn’t mean your yarn-related projects need to be tucked away for the season! There are SO many fantastic transitional pieces you can move over to, and yarns made out of cotton, linen, and silk are all perfect for the upcoming season! They’re light, breathable, and comfortable. Linen in particular is one of my absolute favorite fibers – it’s eco-friendly, incredibly durable, and softens the more you wear and wash your item!
There are some great summer yarns here at the shop, waiting for you to make something gorgeous out of! You can find Cotton Supreme DK, Zinnia, Sarasota, and Bamboo Pop Sock if you’re looking for cotton. If you’re a linen lover, as I am, check out Remix and Flax! I’ve also found a fingering weight wool tends to be pretty darn perfect for those chilly spring days and cool summer nights when you want a bit of warmth but not, you know, a big bulky sweater!

Knit tees are quick, easy, and fun to whip though! The Fable tee by Alicia Plummer is a great little raglan v-neck, and has some great little detailing along the bottom of it to add interest. It’s also a size-inclusive pattern, fitting busts from 31.75″ up to 65″!

Love an organic look and lots of drape? Check out this Forest Weave from Yumiko Alexander! The gentle, rolling waves of this layer give me all sorts of relaxed summer vibes, and I am 100% daydreaming about wearing a piece like this with some leggings while sitting on a patio on a summer evening with a cold beer. I think this would be a fantastic summer swimsuit cover, as well!

Crochet is definitely not my strength, but this Sunshine Top by Nadegda Osipova is SO perfect for summer! I love it paired with a pair of jeans, but there’s also a version that is longer that is a perfect summer dress or swim cover, as well! Make yours in a gorgeous gold hue, as pictured, for a pop of summer sunshine in your wardrobe!

Not thrilled by the idea of making a garment for wearing this summer? There are some fantastic bag patterns out there, just perfect for your next adventure!
On the left, we’ve got the Classic Beach Bag by Rebecca Langford. On the right is the Medano Beach Bag by Heidi Kirrmaier. Both are great for toting around your summer essentials on those trips to the pool or beach, and can be made in cotton and linen for easy care!
As always, if you need help picking out a pattern, finding yarn substitutions, and more – I’m here to help you! Send me a message online or pop by the shop and let me help you put together your next project!
