I never tire of knitting baby sweaters. They’re so small, so fast to knit, and just so ridiculously adorable. This sweet little sweater would have been done even faster had I not accidentally ruined a cable on one of my knitting needles and had to wait for the replacements to arrive.
This was my first go with this particular pattern, and I will absolutely be knitting it again in the future. The whole sweater is knit in one piece, starting at the top and working your way down, but instead of a typical raglan sleeve, the pattern uses short rows and increases to create little “windmills” along the shoulders. It really is lovely and something a bit different than you’d typically see on a sweater, handknit or otherwise.
For buttons, I picked out some spares I had sitting in my stash. If I were knitting this for my own baby I probably would have picked out a few mismatched vintage buttons out of the stash I inherited from my grandmother to make it extra special. But as this is a donation to a fundraising auction, I opted to keep the sweater easy to care for with washable plastic buttons.
Marion locals – you will be able to bid on this at the Friends of Marion DD Recognition Dinner & Auction on March 5th, 2020! The Marion Board of DD has been trying to pass a much-needed levy to help fund services for those in our community who rely on their services, and it’s something my husband and I feel very passionate about supporting. Find out more about the auction on their Facebook event!
