There’s nothing like a sick kiddo to throw a wrench in your day. After a rough night of coughing fits, I woke up with my 5am alarm to my 5 year old snuggled up next to me, warm with a fever, and knew there was just no way the day I planned in my head was happening. Work would have to wait (and, thankfully, I work for some pretty amazing people who completely understand what being a mama is like with things like this! I still and probably will always feel guilty taking time off when I need it but it’s incredibly nice to have people who are supportive and don’t perpetuate that guilt!)
When I was a kid, sick days meant laying in bed all day playing video games and napping. Later, when I first started knitting, sick days were spent knitting and binge watching TV shows I wanted to catch up on while I recuperated. As a mom… well, sick days are now mostly catering to your little one regardless of whether you’re the one sick or he is. But, sometimes, sick day knitting still happens. The stars align and the universe throws you a bone and you get to sit on the couch with your little one, binge watching cartoons you already have seen so many times you’ve memorized them and, somehow, get to sit there and actually *knit* without much interruption.
That’s my Throwback sweater in the sink getting a good soak after I finished the last of the sleeve today. At which point it will be locked away in my craft room to dry on a table because, I’ve learned all too well, the resident felines have a thing for the smell of wet wool and will tear my sweater to shreds. After it dries, I just have to do the button bands before I can wear it!
